[ANSWER]NRS274 Assessment Item 1: Health Challenge Essay 1 Guide(2)
TASK DESCRIPTION ON Health Challenge
NRS274 Assessment item 1 guide
Please refer directly to your Subject Outline when completing this task. Any inconsistency between the guide and the Subject Outline, the Subject Outline should be seen as true and correct.
This assessment task asks students to consider the following health challenge and address the points listed below:
Health Challenge: Rheumatoid arthritis.
If you aren’t familiar with this health challenge, split it up and look it up. Use this guide to further understand the health challenge.
Arthritis- inflammation of joints. The 2 main types of arthritis are osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). OA is a degenerative joint disease common in the elderly. RA is an autoimmune disease, that causes inflammation of multiple joints. In RA, inflammation is often associated with swelling and pain in the affected joints (Craft et al., 2023).
This assessment task does not ask you to define or describe anything. This means that we expect that you know or are able to find out what the elements of the task are and can demonstrate your knowledge by explaining them. Please try not to provide definitions in your introduction or throughout your paper as this does not demonstrate the level of knowledge expected and will use up valuable words.
The task asks you to:
- Explain the underlying pathophysiology that results in each of the following abnormal assessment findings in the context of RA.
This means that you do not select which ones you would like to talk about, you need to explain the pathophysiological processes for each. A pass answer would explain them all individually, and a HD answer would identify the interconnecting processes that result in more than a single assessment finding. Please refer to the marking criteria to see the differentiation in grades.
- Pain in multiple joints
- Body temperature 38.4 degrees Celsius
- Fatigue
- Elevated C-reactive protein
- Explain two (2) examples of evidence-based nursing care that could be applied to prevent and/or manage the health challenge.
Again, here we need to explain the examples we use. It is essential that we accompany our nursing care with a current reference to demonstrate that it is an evidence-based nursing care we are deciding on. The reference should not be more than 5 years old for textbooks (use the most recent edition) and peer-reviewed journal articles not more than 10 years old. For example:
Smith et al., (2022) identify _________ as a key intervention when treating a patient
presenting with RA.
Then EXPLAIN this intervention
_______________ would involve doing ____ and ____ (Reference).
Then link to how this would prevent OR manage someone with RA. If your intervention doesn’t do those things, you need to pick a different one!
Remember, you need 2 examples.
When we are talking about nursing care, this can be any action or intervention that falls within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse. Anything we can do that will prevent and/or manage the condition. The closer you link your nursing care to preventing/managing the health challenge, the better your grade for this part!
- Identify and explain two (2) examples of collaborative care that could be applied to prevent and/or manage the health challenge.
This part asks you to first identify 2 examples of collaborative care. This means you need to clearly name it. Eg An example of collaborative care that could be used to address this health challenge is a _________
The next part of the question asks you to explain the example. So here we need to explain how the identified multidisciplinary team member would help to prevent and/or manage RA. Eg The _________ would support to manage the RA by providing …. which is identified by Smith and Robbs (2021)
This assessment item must be presented as a scholarly paper
This means that you must write in third person, no use of the terms ‘I, me, my, we, our, you’ etc. You also need to construct full sentences and paragraphs, no dot points. You can use headings to separate your work but these should be limited to only a couple.
and include an introduction, body, conclusion
The introduction contains references if needed and should introduce the task, a brief part about the selected health challenge. Abbreviations should always be written out in full in the first use of the word. The introduction should also outline the structure of the paper. The first part explains…. The nursing care is then established as … and …. And then collaborations to support wound healing and… are explained…
The body is the parts of the paper that covers the assessment questions. These should have full sentences and paragraphs and can use headings if you like to structure your work this way.
The conclusion summarises the content of your paper and for this reason, does not need to include references. This is because you have already acknowledged the source of the information in the body of the assessment and the conclusion does not introduce anything new that has not been discussed before. This is your perfect opportunity to summarise how you have addressed the assessment question! Eg The underlying pathophysiology of … and…. and … has been explained, the process of _________ has a clear link to many of these abnormal assessment findings. The nursing care of …. and …are current, evidence based ways in which the nurse can prevent and manage RA…
supporting research evidence in-text, and a reference list.
The in-text references (Smith et al., 2021) contribute to the word count, but your Reference List at the end of the work does not.
Generally, every idea you present in the work needs to be supported by a reference. If all the ideas are presented consecutively and are from the same source, then you could put the reference at the end of the paragraph or the end of that section.
Everything we say has to be backed up by a source of information, always acknowledge the source of information. Use prescribed textbooks and other scholarly literature like peer-reviewed journals.
A minimum of 10 sources should be integrated to support the assessment.
This refers to 10 different sources. You would expect that each source is used more than once, usually. So you need 10 different sources listed in the Reference List, but we would expect many more than 10 episodes of in-text referencing. These can be text books, journal articles and other high quality sources of information. Websites would usually not be acknowledged as they are either not peer reviewed or are not scrutinised at the same level as our primary sources of information or texts. The ‘Readings List’ tab is a great place to start when building your literature to support the task.
It is strongly recommended that subheadings are used to organise the paper.
This is a great idea for a number of reasons, including that it allows you to clearly show the marker that you have worked to structure your work, and that you have addressed each and every part of the task.
Remember to:
- Leave 2 cm margins and double line space your work;
- Use 12pt font, unless otherwise indicated;
- Number all pages;
- Insert student name and number in header or footer of every page of every assignment; and
- Include a title page that includes the subject name and code, title of the assessment task, due date, lecturer’s name, student’s name, and student’s number.
- Incorporating peer-reviewed journal articles to support your rationale will also improve your grade.
- Tables may also be used but must be labelled and demonstrate relevance to the content (Tables are not included in the word count).
- Subheadings can be used to organise your paper;
- The reference list is begun on a new page;
- Minimise the use of direct quotes and paraphrase instead;
- Where a source is quoted, please use quotation marks, and include the page number in the in-text reference.
- Write in the third person; avoid the use of “I”, “we”, “our” etc.
Correct and consistent referencing is an important component of producing professional and credible academic work. Marks will be awarded for high quality referencing.
